Job Description

Network Engineer – EV Infrastructure

UK | Hybrid Working

Volantes Renewables is supporting a rapidly growing organisation within the EV charging infrastructure sector to appoint an experienced Network Engineer to take ownership of their EV Charging Point Management System (CPMS) and wider charging network estate.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking company operating at the forefront of the UK’s energy transition and EV infrastructure rollout, offering significant autonomy to help shape systems, processes, and future operational capability.

The Role

As Network Engineer, you will take responsibility for the performance, reliability and optimisation of the organisation’s EV charging network. Acting as the technical bridge between platforms, field engineers, OEM partners and internal teams, you will ensure maximum uptime and efficiency across the estate.

While occasional support for reactive call-outs may be required, the primary focus of the role will be remote diagnostics, intelligent system management and automation, resolving faults through the CPMS platform and identifying opportunities to improve performance across the network.

You will also play a key role in system integration, data analysis and platform optimisation, helping to ensure the charging infrastructure operates reliably and efficiently as the network continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the EV Charging Point Management System (CPMS) and associated infrastructure.

  • Monitor and optimise network performance to ensure maximum uptime and operational efficiency.

  • Diagnose and resolve faults remotely using the CPMS platform.

  • Act as the technical escalation point for complex network and system issues.

  • Design and maintain APIs and integrations between platforms and systems.

  • Work closely with field engineers to support reactive maintenance and root cause analysis.

  • Collaborate with OEM partners to manage firmware, configuration and platform interoperability.

  • Analyse charger and network data to proactively prevent faults.

  • Support the onboarding of new charging sites and clients into the network.

  • Contribute to operational process development and future team capability.

About You

We are looking to speak with candidates who have experience working within network engineering, systems engineering, or platform engineering roles, ideally within connected infrastructure or IoT environments.

You will be comfortable working independently, solving complex technical challenges remotely and collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in a Network Engineer, Systems Engineer, Platform Engineer or similar role.

  • Proven experience supporting cloud-based or IoT-connected platforms.

  • Strong ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues remotely.

  • Experience with API development or system integrations.

  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, VPNs, routing, switching and firewalls.

  • Experience working in service-critical environments with uptime responsibility.

  • Degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, IT, Electrical Engineering or similar – or equivalent experience.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work across technical teams, engineers and stakeholders.

  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working with EV charging infrastructure or connected energy systems.

  • Knowledge of CPMS platforms, OCPP, OCPI or similar protocols.

  • Experience managing firmware and hardware integration across multiple OEM vendors.

  • Exposure to automation, scripting or platform optimisation.

  • Background within energy, utilities, EV charging or smart infrastructure sectors.

  • Monthly car allowance

  • Hybrid and flexible working

  • 35 days annual leave (including company shutdown)
