Job Description

Volantes Technical Recruitment is supporting a leading aviation organisation in the recruitment of a Licensed Aircraft Engineer (B1.1, B1.3 or B2) for a Part-145 maintenance operation based in Bournemouth.

This is a permanent position within a highly regulated and safety-critical environment, offering exposure to complex aircraft maintenance operations both at main base and across detached locations in the UK and overseas. Type training may be available for suitable candidates.

The role operates on a 5-5-4 shift pattern, with flexibility required to support weekend operations and detached assignments where business needs dictate.

The Role

As a Licensed Aircraft Engineer, you will support the Crew Chief and report to the Chief Engineer, holding responsibility for the safety, regulatory compliance, and operational performance of all applicable aircraft maintenance activities.

You will play a key role in engineering decision-making, supervising maintenance activity, mentoring team members, and embedding a safety-first culture across all maintenance operations.

Aircraft maintenance is highly regulated, and this role requires a strong commitment to quality, compliance, and continuous improvement. Flexibility to work additional hours and deploy on UK and overseas detachments is essential to support operational requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate at all times with safety as the first priority, ensuring compliance with SHE and regulatory standards

  • Maintain the overall performance of aircraft maintenance operations and personnel at the assigned location

  • Promote a “Just Culture” with regard to safety reporting and occurrence management

  • Take responsibility for the maintenance and certification of aircraft and equipment as allocated by the Crew Chief

  • Support aircraft operations and maintenance at the main base and detached locations worldwide

  • Supervise and perform aircraft ground movements where authorised

  • Ensure all supervised staff work safely and in accordance with approved Maintenance Manuals and the Maintenance Organisation Exposition

  • Certify maintenance tasks performed by the team under supervision

  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all aircraft maintenance documentation

  • Coordinate engineering activity to ensure tasks are completed on time and within budget

  • Review team performance and provide feedback to the Crew Chief

  • Maintain cleanliness, organisation, and discipline within supervised work areas

  • Evaluate existing standards, practices, and procedures to drive continuous improvement

  • Support the Crew Chief with day-to-day operations and deputise when required

  • Assist with task prioritisation, scheduling, and team development

  • Uphold organisational values and maintain excellent customer and stakeholder relationships

  • Proactively manage personal authorisations to ensure continued compliance and recency

 

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

  • Unrestricted UK CAA Part-66 B1 and/or B2 licence, with relevant type ratings and/or company authorisations

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within an aircraft maintenance environment (line, base, or workshop)

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements related to aircraft maintenance (essential)

  • Proven ability to supervise and motivate engineering teams

  • Good change management and basic project management skills

  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Customer-focused with a professional and proactive approach

  • Self-motivated, confident, and able to work to deadlines

  • Understanding of, or experience within, continuous improvement initiatives

  • Medically fit to perform engineering duties, including detached assignments

  • Willingness to work shift patterns to meet operational requirements

  • Eligible to meet UK Security Clearance and ITAR requirements
