Service Delivery Manager

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic candidate to provide leadership for the delivery of our clients Civil Helicopter Maintenance Projects with a primary focus on Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS), Private & Business, and National Resilience (non-NPAS).

The Service Delivery Manager (SDM) for Civil Helicopter Maintenance Projects is one of three new SDM roles responsible for ensuring delivery of base and off-site maintenance contracts to schedule, cost and quality.  Reporting to the Head of Services Delivery (Hd SD), the SDM shall ensure an end-to-end flow from customer contract through to handover of the aircraft back to the customer.

The job holder will facilitate a multi-functional delivery team formed as a matrix organisation, aligning a value stream approach to drive the day-to-day delivery of KPIs defined by the contract and as directed by the Hd SD. 

The service-delivery matrix organisation will comprise personnel from MRO, Materiel Management, CAMO, Customer Support Managers (CSMs), Commercial, Finance, Tech Support, PMO and Aircrew.  The SDM will also be supported by a cost controller and the MRO Production Planning Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

• Operational Performance: Responsible for end-to-end delivery performance (schedule, cost and quality) of each maintenance contract plus any ad-hoc arisings.  In a change from previous methods, the SDM will monitor and control hours and schedule versus an agreed baseline for the maintenance input using live data metrics that are to become an integral part of the daily and weekly operational routines. In the detail, this will require the SDM to perform the following tasks:

  • Manage the production and updates (re-baselining) of project-level budgets (hours and materials) for each aircraft maintenance input.  

  • Manage the allocation of budget manhours, commitments and forecasts to maintenance-module level.

  • Daily progress monitoring and problem solving.

• Supporting the Cost Controller production of cost reports, dashboard updates and metrics.

• In conjunction with the Cost Controller, maintain strong coordination with all departments to ensure all costs are accurately booked, allocated and in line with contract performance requirements.

• Manage requirements for additional and emergent work (defects) to ensure appropriate costs are captured for invoicing to the Customer.

• Cross-Functional Integration & Synchronisation:  Ensure seamless cross-functional integration, synchronisation and collaboration among each function represented within the Delivery Team.

• Regular Operational Reviews:  Perform daily progress reviews with the Delivery Team to monitor and control progress against the contracted performance, identify bottlenecks/issues and ensure appropriate actions are taken or escalated to ensure prompt resolution.  These meetings will adopt the Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People (SQCDP).

• Routine Reporting:  In conjunction with the Cost Controller, conduct analysis and continuous SQCDP reporting on work in progress (WIP) of the overall delivery programme and for each more-detailed aircraft project, including KPIs, CPI/SPI and other metrics as defined by Hd SD.  

• Historic Data:  Compilation of a data pool from completed projects for the retrospective analysis of performance/cost issues, recurring trends and satisfaction of contracted requirements.  Focus on improving charge-out rates to increase profitability and competitiveness, and supporting future bid development.

• Customer Reporting:  Liaison with the CSM to maintain dialogue with the Customer, producing customer reports in line with contractual agreements, supported by conference calls and in-person visits as required.  

• Process Optimisation & Efficiency:  Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the scope of the Delivery Team, identifying opportunities to improve customer satisfaction as well as internal adherence to contract performance metrics.  Implement lean methodologies/analyses to identify and implement time and cost savings opportunities to maximise value-added and minimise non-value-added business practices.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Play an active and collaborative role within the Airbus Clear & Efficient Front Office (CEFO) process forming a close alliance with  Sales Managers (SM’s) in order to identify, promote, and drive new Support & Services (S&S) business opportunities. 

• Manage customer requests and new business opportunities within the organisation CRM tool (Salesforce), working collaboratively with Front Office teams and key stakeholders to progress and close opportunities within defined timescales.

• Ensure alignment between Customer Support and Sales from opportunity phase through to completion and delivery of new aircraft acquisitions to ensure smooth entry into service and comprehensive capture of all in-service requirements for seamless customer operations.

• Lead the delivery of commercial offers for Support & Services (S&S) activities to customers following close collaboration with Commercial teams and other key stakeholders across the organisation as necessary.

• Oversee and execute the Customer Satisfaction Management process via the Airbus CX Platform Tool, including raising customer satisfaction surveys, analysis of survey responses and dissatisfaction, and pro-active management of any associated action plans and resolutions required.

• Ensure the timely and effective resolution of all customer requests and complaints through a unified, collaborative approach across the organisation, escalating critical issues to the Senior Sales Operations Manager as necessary.

Purpose of the Role

You own the aircraft digital mock-up and the allocation of physical space. On a clean-sheet aircraft with distributed propulsion, a large battery installation, a medical cabin and a routing problem across composite structure, physical space is a contested resource with no natural owner. Unallocated space becomes a late clash, and late clashes are expensive.

This role holds the geometric truth of the aircraft: zonal definition, space allocation to each domain, envelope and clearance control, clash detection and resolution, and maintenance and installation access.

Role Boundaries

You own zonal and space allocation, the digital mock-up and clash resolution process. You do not design any installation, and you do not own the PLM platform or the toolchain, which sit with PLM and Engineering Tools. Where domains dispute space you arbitrate on the record and escalate unresolved conflicts to the Chief Engineer - Platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the aircraft zonal definition and space allocation to domains, including battery bay, powertrain compartments, avionics bays, cabin and routing corridors.
• Own the digital mock-up: assembly structure, configuration rules, version and baseline control, and the rules by which domains publish geometry into it.
• Own clash detection and resolution: routine clash runs, dispositioning, and arbitration between competing installations.
• Own envelope, clearance and tolerance control, including thermal and vibration movement and structural deflection.
• Own maintenance and installation access as a design requirement, working with continued airworthiness and industrialisation.
• Own routing corridor allocation with EWIS and with fluid and cooling systems.
• Support mass properties with geometric and installation data on consistent assumptions.
• Maintain the geometric configuration baseline through design changes and report configuration status.

Required Experience: Must Have

• 10+ years in aircraft configuration, installation or digital mock-up engineering, including at least four on a development aircraft programme.
• Personal ownership of a digital mock-up or aircraft configuration baseline, including assembly structure and version control.
• Space allocation and zonal management on a programme where space was genuinely contested.
• Clash detection and resolution at aircraft level, and the arbitration that goes with it.

Purpose of the Role

You own aircraft mass and centre of gravity as controlled programme quantities. Weight growth is the classic failure mode of an eVTOL programme: the aircraft closes on paper, then gains mass through detailed design until range, payload or hover margin is gone. This role exists so that mass has an owner whose only job is to protect it.

This is deliberately a cross-domain role reporting to aircraft-level authority rather than sitting inside a domain, because every domain has an incentive to spend mass and none has an incentive to defend the total.

Role Boundaries

You own the mass and centre of gravity budget, its allocation to domains, and the reporting and control process. You do not design anything, and you do not own the aircraft energy closure, which sits with Principal Aircraft Conceptual Design and MDAO, or the substantiated performance evidence, which sits with Principal Vehicle Performance. Where those roles need mass inputs they take them from you, and where a domain exceeds its allocation you report it rather than absorbing it.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the aircraft mass and centre of gravity budget: allocation to domains and configuration items, growth allowance, margin policy and the definition of what is included at each maturity level.
• Own mass properties reporting: a controlled, auditable mass statement at agreed intervals, with the basis of every entry stated as calculated, estimated or weighed.
• Own centre of gravity control across loading cases, including EMS mission variants, patient and equipment loading and battery installation.
• Own the mass growth control process: threshold and trend monitoring, exceedance escalation and the mass review forum.
• Provide mass inputs to the aircraft closure, to performance substantiation and to structural loads, with consistent assumptions across all three.
• Own weighing programme definition for prototype and production aircraft, and the correlation between predicted and weighed mass.
• Support trade studies with credible mass sensitivity, and challenge domain mass claims on the merits.
• Report mass status to the programme honestly, including when the trend is adverse and its consequence for range, payload or hover margin.

• 10+ years in mass properties, structures or aircraft performance engineering, including at least four owning or maintaining an aircraft mass and centre of gravity budget.
• Personal ownership of a controlled mass statement on a development aircraft programme, through at least one major design maturity gate.
• Mass growth control in practice: allocation, monitoring, exceedance handling and the organisational discipline it requires.
• Centre of gravity control across loading and mission variants.
• Weighing programme experience and correlation of predicted against measured mass.
• Credible experience defending a budget against cross-domain pressure.

Required Experience: Preferred

• eVTOL or electric aircraft, where mass sensitivity is amplified by battery energy density.
• Mass properties within a digital mock-up or PLM environment with automated mass roll-up.
• Mission or role-equipment variant mass management.
• Structural weight estimation methods and their validation.
