Field Service Engineer – EV Charging (Newcastle)

 

We are seeking a skilled Field Service Engineer (FSE) to support our long-standing clean energy client. This role is focused on the commissioning, maintenance, and repair of AC Chargers, Rapid DC, Ultra, and High-Power Charging (HPC) EV chargers across sites in the UK.

 

This is a hands-on role that requires strong technical ability, excellent problem-solving skills, and the confidence to work independently in the field. You will play a key role in ensuring charging stations operate at peak performance and meet the highest standards of reliability and safety.

 

This position involves working across varied environments, including outdoor sites and confined spaces, with occasional travel and overnight stays required.

 

Essential Requirements

 

  • Level 3 Electro-technical qualification.
  • Confident using test and measurement equipment such as multimeters and voltage testers.
  • Proven problem-solving ability with experience diagnosing and repairing technical issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-first approach.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while travelling between sites.
  • Full, valid UK driving licence.

 

Desirable Skills & Experience

 

  • Electrical certifications: 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and G&G 2391/2394 Testing & Inspection.
  • Previous field service experience, ideally within EV charging, renewable energy, or power electronics.
  • EV charging station certification or manufacturer-specific training.
  • Practical experience with commissioning, maintaining, and repairing Rapid DC, Ultra, and HPC EV chargers.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.
  • Good understanding of analogue & digital electronics.
  • Awareness of electrical hazards and strong on-site H&S knowledge.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Commissioning of EV Chargers

 

  • Commission and configure Rapid DC, Ultra, and HPC EV chargers at client sites.
  • Perform set-up and testing to ensure correct operation and compliance with standards.
  • Collaborate with project and installation teams to ensure seamless integration.

 

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

 

  • Carry out routine and preventive maintenance on charging stations.
  • Diagnose and repair technical issues (electrical, mechanical, and software-related).
  • Perform diagnostic tests, firmware updates, and calibration as required.
  • Replace faulty components in line with manufacturer guidelines.

 

Customer Support

 

  • Deliver on-site technical support and training to clients.
  • Respond to service requests promptly, maintaining strong communication throughout.
  • Record all service activities and client interactions in the service management system.

 

Compliance & Safety

 

  • Work in line with all relevant safety regulations and company policies.
  • Ensure compliance with local electrical codes and standards.
  • Participate in regular safety training and required certifications.
