Job Description

The Role

We're working on behalf of a leading renewables and construction business to find a Senior Quantity Surveyor to take full commercial ownership across a portfolio of large-scale projects. You'll sit at the heart of the commercial function — driving cost control, managing contracts end-to-end, and protecting margin from pre-contract through to final account.

This is a senior, client-facing position where you'll work closely with project managers, engineers, and external stakeholders, while mentoring junior members of the commercial team. If you're a commercially sharp QS with a main contractor background and a hunger to work in the energy transition space, this is the one.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading cost planning, budgeting, and feasibility studies across multiple projects simultaneously
  • Drafting, reviewing, and managing contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers — negotiating terms and managing change
  • Tracking actual costs against budget throughout the project lifecycle and producing accurate forecasts, cost reports, and cash flows
  • Identifying and implementing cost-saving opportunities; flagging and managing commercial risk
  • Preparing tender documents, bills of quantities, and procurement packs; evaluating returns from contractors and subcontractors
  • Resolving contractual disputes and managing claims with confidence
  • Conducting site visits to monitor progress and compliance against design and safety standards
  • Liaising across project, engineering, and client teams to ensure smooth, accurate project delivery
  • Mentoring and developing junior quantity surveyors and commercial support staff

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or equivalent — RICS accreditation preferred
  • Proven QS experience with a main contractor on large-scale construction projects
  • Strong working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and UK legal/regulatory frameworks
  • Proficient in cost estimating software
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently
  • Valid UK Driving Licence

Desirable

  • Civil or structural engineering project experience
  • Construction project management experience
  • Valid H&S qualification (UKPIA, CSCS or equivalent)

The Package

  • Monthly Car Allowance
  • Hybrid & Flexible Working
  • 35 Days Annual Leave (including company shutdown days)
  • Travel & Subsistence covered
  • Discretionary Company Performance Bonus
  • Bupa Private Healthcare (after 6 months' service)
  • Salary Sacrifice Pension — 8% total contribution
  • EV Car Salary Sacrifice Scheme
  • Holiday Purchase Scheme — buy up to 5 additional days
  • Enhanced Family-Friendly Policies
  • 4pm Friday Finish
  • On-Site Gym Access
  • Benefits & Discounts Platform
  • Long Service Awards
