Head of Design Organisation & Chief of the Office of Airworthiness (Part 21) – EASA Subpart J
Volantes Technical Recruitment is proud to be representing a forward-thinking EASA Part 21 Subpart J Design Organisation seeking a highly experienced and visionary Head of Design Organisation & Chief of the Office of Airworthiness.
This is a part-time, mainly remote opportunity—perfect for a senior-level professional seeking flexibility, autonomy, and the chance to make a real impact.
Approximately 20 hours per week, with occasional onsite presence required during audits (full travel and accommodation expenses covered).

Key Responsibilities
Head of Design Organisation

Ensure all design activities meet applicable regulatory and internal standards.

Maintain continuous compliance with the Design Management System and Design Organisation Handbook (DOH).

Allocate and control personnel and resources within the design function.

Provide technical oversight for design deliverables.

Oversee continued airworthiness support and ensure the safety of certified products.

Manage staff training, development, and record-keeping.

Develop and implement Safety Management Systems (SMS) in line with EASA requirements.

Embed a safety-first culture across the organisation.
Chief of the Office of Airworthiness

Ensure compliance with all DOH requirements.

Oversee classification of design changes.

Conduct compliance verification and certification reviews.

Act as key liaison with EASA on airworthiness issues.

Authorise CVEs, document reviewers, and drawing checkers.

Sign off minor change approval certificates upon successful compliance reviews.

Lead updates to the DOH in line with regulatory evolution.
Candidate Requirements

Extensive working knowledge of EASA Part-21 Subpart J and relevant CS specifications.

A minimum of 7 years in a senior aviation role—such as CVE, DOA Project Manager, etc.

Proven leadership and organisational skills.

Detail-driven, highly responsible, and collaborative.

Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (Maltese is not required).
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical or Electrical/Avionics Engineering (or equivalent).
