About the Role
We are looking for a Principal Charging & Ground Power Interface Engineer to take ownership of the aircraft-side charging and ground power systems.
You will be responsible for ensuring the aircraft can charge safely, efficiently and reliably, covering the charging interface, protection, control, communication, thermal management and ground power requirements.
You will work closely with battery, high-voltage, operations and ground infrastructure teams to develop a safe and practical charging solution.
Key Responsibilities

Own the aircraft charging interface, including connector selection, voltage/current ratings, thermal management and installation.

Develop charging protection and isolation systems, including fault detection, interlocks and safe disconnection.

Define the communication and control interface between the aircraft and external charger.

Ensure safe behaviour during charging interruptions, overheating and other abnormal conditions.

Own ground power provision for maintenance and pre-flight activities.

Define the interface requirements between the aircraft and ground/vertiport charging infrastructure.

Analyse aircraft turnaround times based on charge rate, battery temperature and battery limitations.

Support safety assessments covering ground safety, personnel protection and emergency response.

Define and support charging and interface qualification testing, including thermal testing.

Monitor emerging aviation charging standards and support future interface decisions.
Requirements – Must Have
-
10+ years' experience in electrical systems, high-power charging or high-voltage interface engineering.

At least 3 years' experience in airborne, automotive or industrial safety-critical applications.

Proven ownership of a high-power charging or high-voltage connection interface.

Experience with protection, interlocks and fault behaviour.

Experience implementing vehicle-to-charger communication and control protocols.

Strong understanding of thermal management for high-current charging interfaces.

Experience with high-voltage ground safety and personnel protection.

Strong experience managing technical interfaces across multiple engineering teams.
Desirable Experience

Experience with aircraft/eVTOL charging systems.

Experience with automotive fast charging or megawatt-class charging.

Knowledge of battery swap concepts and fast-charge solutions.

Experience contributing to charging interface standards.

Experience with vertiport or ground infrastructure electrical systems.

Experience with fleet-scale charging and energy management systems.
