Chief Engineer – Propulsion & Energy
Location: Dubai, UAE | Permanent
Volantes Technical Recruitment are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer – Propulsion & Energy to lead the development of advanced electric propulsion and energy systems for a next-generation aerospace programme.
This is a key leadership role within an early-stage engineering team, responsible for defining propulsion architecture and supporting the journey from concept development through certification and production.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the electric propulsion architecture, including motor selection, sizing, configuration, and integration.
- Lead battery system strategy, including cell selection, pack design, BMS architecture, and safety considerations.
- Define high-voltage electrical architecture, power distribution, redundancy, and fault protection strategies.
- Develop thermal management solutions for electric propulsion systems.
- Establish battery certification strategies, including qualification and safety testing.
- Lead technical engagement with suppliers across batteries, motors, and power electronics.
- Manage key technical risks around energy storage, performance, and system integration.
Requirements
- 15+ years’ experience in electric propulsion, aerospace systems engineering, or similar advanced technology programmes.
- Proven experience owning the design and development of complete propulsion systems.
- Strong expertise in battery systems, including cell chemistry, pack design, BMS, thermal runaway analysis, and containment.
- Experience with high-voltage electrical systems and thermal management.
- Knowledge of battery certification requirements and qualification processes.
- Previous eVTOL, electric aircraft, or hybrid-electric experience preferred.
