Chief Engineer — Electrical

Volantes Technical Recruitment are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer — Electrical to join an innovative aerospace programme developing a next-generation electric aircraft.
This is a unique opportunity to join a growing engineering team at the early stages of aircraft development, helping shape the electrical architecture, certification approach, and future production of an advanced aircraft platform.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading all aircraft-level electrical engineering activities, ensuring the design is safe, reliable, and compliant with aviation certification standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the aircraft electrical architecture, including:
- Power distribution
- Electrical system design
- Redundancy and fault protection strategies
- Low-voltage aircraft systems
- Own aircraft-level electrical certification activities, including:
- DO-160G compliance
- EMC
- HIRF
- Lightning protection
- Develop electrical bonding, grounding, and shielding strategies for metallic and composite aircraft structures.
- Define electrical installation and wiring standards, including:
- Harness design
- Routing
- Cable separation
- Connector requirements
- Support safety analysis and risk assessments related to electrical systems.
- Work closely with engineering teams across propulsion, avionics, structures, and certification to ensure successful aircraft integration.
- Provide technical leadership and act as the electrical authority throughout the aircraft development programme.
Required Experience
- 15+ years’ experience in aircraft electrical systems engineering.
- Proven experience leading aircraft-level electrical architecture on a certified aircraft programme.
- Previous experience as a:
- Chief Electrical Engineer
- Electrical Technical Authority
- Electrical Systems Lead
- Similar senior engineering role
- Strong knowledge of aircraft certification requirements, including:
- CS-23
- DO-160G
- EMC, HIRF, and lightning protection
- Experience working with civil aviation authorities such as EASA, FAA, GCAA, or equivalent.
- Experience with composite aircraft structures and aircraft electrical integration.
- Experience with electric or hybrid-electric aircraft systems, including HV/LV systems and electrical fault management.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience within:
- eVTOL
- Electric aircraft
- Advanced Air Mobility
- Novel aircraft development
- Experience with:
- MBSE / SysML
- Aircraft certification programmes
- Wire harness design
- Distributed electric propulsion systems
