Supply Chain Operations Lead

Location: Bournemouth
Type: Permanent
Hours: Full-Time (37 Hours Per Week) (Hybrid)

The Opportunity

Volantes Recruitment is supporting a leading aviation organisation in the search for an experienced Supply Chain Operations Lead to oversee and optimise international logistics, transport, shipping, and customs activities.

This is a key position within a highly regulated aviation environment where the efficient and compliant movement of goods across international borders is essential to maintaining operational effectiveness.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating freight forwarding, customs compliance, import/export activities, and driving continuous improvement across the supply chain function.

Key Responsibilities

As a hands-on operational leader, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth flow of materials and equipment throughout the supply chain.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing and developing relationships with freight forwarders and customs brokers
  • Overseeing customs activities, including UK CDS reporting, reconciliations, and issue resolution
  • Supporting export documentation, including commercial invoices and packing lists, ensuring compliance with export control regulations
  • Coordinating import clearance activities to ensure timely and compliant delivery of goods
  • Acting as the primary escalation point for shipment delays, customs holds, and logistics challenges
  • Working closely with engineering, procurement, finance, and operational teams to ensure alignment across the business
  • Managing transport and customs-related risks and costs
  • Driving process improvements, reporting enhancements, and automation initiatives
  • Supporting logistics contracts and operational projects as required

Experience & Qualifications

We are seeking an experienced logistics professional who thrives in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

You should have:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience within transport, shipping, customs, or international logistics
  • Strong knowledge of UK and international customs procedures, including CDS
  • Experience managing freight forwarders and customs brokers
  • A solid understanding of import/export regulations and trade compliance
  • Experience working within a regulated industry, ideally aviation, aerospace, defence, engineering, or manufacturing
  • Strong problem-solving and stakeholder management skills
  • Knowledge of Incoterms, Rules of Origin, and ATA Carnets
  • The ability to identify inefficiencies and implement continuous improvement initiatives
