Volantes Technical Recruitment, on behalf of our long-standing Rotary Client have the permanent role of Hangar Superintendent available.
This role is for their Stansted Base.
Working hours are Monday to Friday , 0800 – 1630 each day.
The purpose of the role is to Control all aspects of aircraft scheduled and unscheduled maintenance through the delegation of tasks to the Engineering team. This will be done in conjunction with the Technical Services Department and Technical Director / Head of Engineering or Engineering Manager.
Principle Accountabilities
- Control and standards of performance of the Maintenance Department
- Day-to-day administration of staff
- Overseeing work on aircraft and in support departments
- Ensure the Stores’ procedures are adhered to in a timely manner and approve spares for the support of maintenance activity
- Active role in aircraft maintenance
- Manage customer enquiries from end-to-end, giving regular feedback
- In the absence of the Engineering Manager (EM), the Superintendent will deputise and perform agreed functions of the EM role as applicable
Administrative Responsibilities
- Control of overtime and lieu time
- Audits of the Hangar and Facilities in accordance with Company procedures
- Regularly meet with the Engineering Manager and provide detailed weekly report in a verbal format
- Oversee the allocation of engineering staff to cover line and base maintenance activities, both on and off base
- Assist with planning scheduled maintenance
- Ensure aircraft documentation is completed in accordance with the Company procedures
- Ensure engineers complete the Engineering Handover Log accurately and precisely
- Manage annual leave request and maintain the top plot/resources for staff absences and leave and training type events
- Investigate and respond to customer concerns and complaints
People Management
- Control and discipline of staff; any requirement to take formal measures must be done in conjunction with the Engineering Manager
- Promote an open and just reporting culture for items of safety
- Ensure staff adhere to their contracted working hours and start times
- Inspire, motivate and lead the staff to full satisfy their responsibilities
- Carry out Personal Development Reviews of the L4 Licensed Engineers, and other members of staff as required
- Ensure staff are productive and cost-effective in both busy and quiet periods to ensure customers are accurately charged for work done
- Instill housekeeping guidelines to ensure the cleanliness of the facility
Additional Responsibilities
- Ensure the effective completion of any delegated tasks
- Ensure sufficient staff of the correct trade and certification are present to complete the required work
- Ensure allocated tasks are completed within the allotted time scales
- Ensure tasks are being completed and being staged correctly onto the worksheets and the accurate time recording by staff
- Ensure that the customer’s approval for the work/rectification to be carried out has been obtained and that payment terms are agreed
- Ensure that the customer’s approval for the purchase of spare parts up to the agreed limits has been obtained
- Liaise with other trades and departments within the client or external companies as necessary to initiate or complete the assigned task
- Liaise with customer operators and owners on matters pertaining to maintenance contracts and work place on their respective aircraft
- Maintain a high standard of appearance of their staff, premises, vehicles and equipment
- Notify the Compliance Monitoring Manager, or the nominated representative, of any defect or incident that will affect the continuing airworthiness of the aircraft
- Produce procedures which will ensure effective communication in relaying the desired information i.e. creating work instructions
- Assist in completing internal incident reports i.e. ViSERS and Audit Non Conformities where possible
- Respond effectively to due lists highlighting, test equipment and tool calibration and/or inspection validity expiry dates. In doing so, the Superintendent has responsibility for ensuring that all test equipment and tools in use are within calibration and/or inspection validity
- Take ownership of problems and deal with them in a professional manner
- Assist with the training and development of the staff
- Ensure that a safe and just culture is encouraged in the workplace
- Carry out random audits of the engineers tool boxes and ensure the contents correspond to their inventory list
- Review of pre-loads to ensure that items have been correctly booked and issued to the customer
Certification and Legal Responsibilities
- Be conversant with the Company Procedures and have a good understanding of their content and work within the boundaries of the procedures
- Ensure all work carried out by staff under their supervision complies with the Regulatory Authority and Company Procedures in force at the time of the work carried out
- Ensure all documentation is completed correctly before the work day/shift ends and a detailed hand over of any work in progress is completed
- Ensure that a system to record the shift and maintenance activities by means of a daily log is compiled each day and that all maintenance required is recorded
- Monitor the quality of work accepted by the certifying engineers to ensure that Company quality standards are being adhered to
Health and Safety
- Ensure that the staff are working to the Health and Safety regulations in force at the time of the work being carried out i.e. use of safety goggles, safety harnesses etc.
- Ensure that the highest standards of housekeeping in the hangar and workshops are maintained at all times
- Ensure safety procedures are adhered to for the task in work i.e. safety barriers, warning notices, staff positioned around the area for function checks etc.
- Be instrumental in performing or delegating the undertaking of Risk Assessing of tasks and processes
