Our client is a leading maintenance and repair organisation (MRO) specialising in both fixed and rotary wing aircraft.

We’re currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Engineering Manager – Rotary Wing to join their growing operation in Cairns, North Queensland.

This is a senior leadership position responsible for managing the Rotary Wing Engineering Department and ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities for matters covered under the MOE.

• Lead and guide maintenance personnel to ensure daily activities are performed in line with company procedures and aviation standards.

• Oversee manpower planning and rostering in compliance with fatigue management rules.

• Manage the engineering facilities to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.

• Provide strong management support to Technical Services and ensure adequate storage for tools, equipment, and materials.

• Ensure sufficient competent personnel are in place to plan, perform, supervise, inspect, and certify maintenance activities.

• Project manage all approved maintenance checks, working closely with the engineering team.

• Guarantee availability and serviceability of tools, equipment, and materials required to complete planned tasks.

• Ensure all maintenance is correctly certified and records are securely retained in accordance with regulatory requirements.

• Maintain strict compliance with organisational procedures and standards throughout all maintenance activities.

• Uphold high-quality workmanship in line with regulatory and organisational standards.

• Manage personnel competency through the company training program in accordance with MOE requirements.

• Liaise with internal stakeholders to support quoting and pricing for new projects and line maintenance work.

• Respond to quality deficiencies identified through internal or external audits.

• Conduct performance reviews, toolbox talks, team briefings, and participate in company meetings as required.

• Maintain in-depth knowledge of Part 145 MOS and ensure ongoing compliance with approval ratings and CASR 1998.

• Actively promote the Safety Management System and champion the integration of human factors and performance principles within the engineering teams.

• Drive customer engagement and ensure service delivery meets agreed standards and expectations.

What You’ll Bring

• Proven management experience within an aviation maintenance environment or similar.

• Relevant qualifications such as an Advanced Diploma of Aviation Management (Avionics or Mechanical) or equivalent units of competency.

• Strong working knowledge of CASA Part 42, 145 and CAR 30 regulations.

• An Aircraft Engineering Licence relevant to rotary wing aircraft.

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar management role.

• Strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety and compliance.

This is a senior leadership role, reporting to the Accountable Manager, with responsibility for the safe and efficient management of all rotary-wing operations in line with CASA PNG regulations, OGP guidelines, and BARS requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the management and oversight of rotary-wing flight operations in accordance with CAR 119.51(b) and company policy.

• Maintain flying currency as a backup pilot to support operational needs.

• Minimum of 5,000 hours total flying experience.

• Previous management and/or Check & Training/CRM experience.

• ATPL (Helicopter).

• IFR experience highly regarded.

• Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to foster safety and professionalism.

Volantes Technical Recruitment are searching for a B2 Licenced Field Engineer to join our client in Staverton on a permanent basis. 

The B2 licenced field engineer position will support operation across multiple line stations. The role will be focused on maintaining the AW169 helicopter to maximise availability rates across the rotary fleet.

Working a 644 shift pattern, the successful candidate will provide engineering assistance for the four AW169 line stations, encompassing scheduled maintenance, defect investigation and AOG recovery. The field engineer will be based out of Staverton and will expedite AOG rectification through minimised response times.

Responsibilities:

A B2 Licensed Engineer is responsible for the completion and certification of Electrical and Avionic systems related tasks as defined in the MOE, on the Company’s aircraft either carried out directly by him/her or carried out by non-certifying Engineers. They ensure the work is accomplished in accordance with approved data and Company policies and procedures, including:

• Completion of all paperwork and documentation
• The issuing of all approved materials to the work via the Company’s computer system (Corridor)
• All work is completed using approved tools and ground support equipment
• All work is completed in a safe and appropriate manner considering risk to personnel, property and reputation
• The working environment is approved and appropriate to the task being undertaken
• All tooling is accounted for prior to return to service
• All post maintenance actions have been completed
• Completion of maintenance detailed in the Maintenance Status Report
• Reporting defects to the Line Maintenance Manager or Planning Department
• Reporting issues regarding Health and Safety or Flight Safety, via the Company’s reporting system (iQSMS)
• Engineering additional duties as directed by the Line Maintenance Manager or Planning Department

Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:

Essential

• An EASA or UK CAA Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Licence
• A strong maintenance related technical knowledge of electrical and avionic systems
• A good working knowledge of the regulations and requirements associated with aircraft maintenance, Health & Safety and Human Factors
• The ability to take responsibility and ownership of tasks
• The ability to understand the requirement of clear, unambiguous communication
• Familiarity with OEM appropriate to helicopter type
• The ability to work alone and the willingness to travel. This role covers the multiple sites to ensure effective coverage of our rotary line stations – minimising operational downtime during AOG situations.
